Selita began her modeling career at age 17 when a modeling scout at Six Flags in New Jersey discovered her. Banks, who was retiring from modelling, symbolically passed her Victoria's Secret wings to Ebanks on a November 2005 edition of The Tyra Banks Show... According to a 2005 CBS press release for the Victoria's Secret TV special, Ebanks "was discovered at the age of 17 at New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure by Women Model Management" and is "of Caymanian, Jamaican, Irish, Indian, and African heritage."
